Update on our Balfour Community Park and Playing Field revitalization project: We are so excited that work has begun; the outer edge of the field has been cleared of scotch broom by Don Renzie Holdings; Don and Trisha also generously contributed the new fence posts, gate and fixed up the driveway. The foundation for the multipurpose Gazebo has been started and hopefully soon we’ll see the structure taking shape. Thanks to West Arm Construction for fitting us into a very busy work schedule. Funding for the structure has come from the Columbia Basin Trust grant and the Balfour Recreation Commission. We have local engineering firm Pennco Engineering, Bernie Penner, to thank for contributing the engineering and permit work for the gazebo. We will definitely have to create a Wall of Appreciation when this is done as so very many folks have contributed their time, costs and support towards bringing improvements to the Balfour and area communities. Check back for more updates as the project continues.
The BRC is looking for some letters of support for a grant application being submitted to revitalize the Balfour Playing Fields. A show of community support would help secure funds to build a multi-use gazebo, build bathrooms, revitalize and build pickle ball courts, improve safety through lighting and a host of other important improvements.
New ways the gazebo/playing fields could be used might include family reunions, outdoor activities such as yoga classes, concerts and the like. If you would like to see this project go forward, please write a letter explaining how this would benefit you, your family and the area.
Thank you very much for considering this important improvement project for our area. If you would like more information or to submit a letter, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or write to the BRC at

BALFOUR RECREATION COMMISSION
NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING for 2019
DECEMBER 10, 2020
It has been our strong desire to hold an Annual General Meeting this year however, the continuing pandemic has resulted in the need to be creative in delivering an AGM. Consistent with the Province’s Emergency Program Act and similar to other societies in the Province the 2019 Balfour Recreation Commission AGM will be held by Electronic means. Society Members, in good standing, (annual membership dues paid), will receive an email with an AGM approval chart with the required approvals and voting processes. The approvals agenda will be presented with the intention that all items meet the requirements of the Society’s Act and the BRC by-laws.
AGM approvals will include:
2018 AGM Minutes of September 24, 2019
2019 Financial Statements
Election of Board Directors
The current BRC Board of Directors has five continuing Directors and three term completions. All Directors have agreed to continue with their terms with the responsibilities accepted.
Approval documentation will be sent out with supporting attachments within the next day or two. The process for response will be simply to reply to the email, put an X by each required approval point stating your approval, and sending. Your email will be documented. Should a paper document be required, it will be available upon request.
All emails and/or paper documentations must be returned and received by December 10, 2020 at 12:00 noon.
We appreciate that this process does not provide opportunity for conversation. Society Members may at any time contact a member of the current Board of Directors. It is the intention of the BRC Directors to offer a special meeting at such time as the Covid19 guidelines and restrictions permit.
We thank you for your patience and support at this challenging time, and we look forward to meeting with you all in the hopefully near future to discuss our Society and Community.
BRC Board of Directors
*Annual Membership Dues: The BRC Directors determined that memberships would transition to a calendar year beginning in 2020. Consequently, all current members are in considered good standing with membership extending through December 2020. Invoices for Annual membership fees for 2021 will be issued in January.
Since the founding of the Balfour Recreation Commission our mission has been to operate and maintain community use facilities in the Balfour area. The BRC strives to promote healthy living and community spirit while building a network of community resources as a base for future events and community development.
The COVID-19 pandemic has required us to raise and implement our protocols for the current circumstances. With the opening of the Golf Course, our staff and clients have supported these efforts with the resulting best & busiest May on record. We want to acknowledge the dedication and support we have received to maintain the success of the Golf Course.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge Annie Bailey and her service to our community through her food service business at the Osprey Mountain Grill in the clubhouse of the Balfour Golf Course. Sadly, Annie has decided to depart from the restaurant. This unexpected turn of events has us considering alternatives going forward.
Following the Government requirements we are now able to open our pickleball/tennis courts for use with safety, distancing and minimal participant protocols posted. Our Community Hall and Wharf facilities will also be available as per these protocols. Unfortunately, at this time, we will not open the Fitness Centre and the Playground due to the BC Government requirements related to the pandemic precautions.
The BRC Annual General Meeting will be postponed until such time as larger gatherings are permitted.
Through this there have been countless moments of kindness and resilience witnessed in our community. We don’t know when the COVID-19 pandemic will be over or when our lives will return to some sort of normalcy, but we look forward to continuing to serve the Balfour area.
Until that time, please stay safe and healthy
Brant Gray, President
